The Things You Will Become-Chapter 5

Chapter 5

The team awoke and looked around, ready to begin packing up. They  focused on being quiet. The whole city was looking for them after all, the group had just arrived on the rich side of the city. Lucas missed not having to be on the run, trying not to be ambushed by policemen. Lucas knew that he could not give up, for his father and his friends. He was homesick, but he did not have a home. If he wanted to be safe, he had to defeat The Chosen One and expose him to the city. Lucas had not shown the city the things The Chosen One had done, and he wanted to collect more info.

“So, any new tech Daniel?” Lucas asked, knowing his innovative friend.

“Yes, I am building a spy drone that can help eavesdrop on government officials.” Daniel replied, glad to tell him about the project.

Just then, Catherine heard a faint siren in the distance, and as it got louder everybody heard it as well. Everything else was silent. They looked around, but saw nothing. Catherine readied her bow and arrow, Daniel equipped his metal arm, and Lucas created his radiant sword. Tiny specks in the distance started becoming larger and taking shape. People raced toward the three children. Lucas and his friends all were prepared for whatever awaited them, but the enemies that surrounded them were not police officers. They were the infamous silent assassins, the kill squad of the city, and they hunted down anyone who was a threat to the government. They had not failed once. Their black suits complimented the white jeans they wore. Black sunglasses concealed each one of their faces. Each one of them had a cannon in their hands.

“What are those?” Catherine said.

“The cannons look to have been forged with steel,” Daniel observed. A glowing aura shined from them. “They also seem to have been made with something else…” The assassins all shot at once. Beams of light projected out of the cannons, destroying the landscape around our heroes. “Keep Moving!” Lucas cried, and then he pulled out a luminous light and attacked the closest agents. Catherine fired an arrow, taking out the first agent. Daniel took a closer look at the beams of light. He knew what they were, lava! Only luminous lights could block that, but if they got hit, it would not be good. Daniel ran over to Lucas. He had seen this before in the tests of his inventions. “You have to block the projectiles with light, you got it?” Lucas nodded. The beams of light got closer and closer, but Lucas was ready, he put the luminous light in front of him, and the projectile came and it bounced off, going back to the shooters, which fell back from the lights that incinerated anything in their path. The plan was working, and there were less and less agents as the lava kept bouncing off the luminous light at high speeds like a shield. I didn't know it could do that! Lucas thought. There were only a few soldiers left, the last of the dozen that had first attacked them. Catherine aimed and fired, piercing the first agent’s armor. He fell to the ground. Next, Daniel blocked an attack with his metallic arm and then punched the second one, sending him flying into a tree twenty feet away, knocking him out. Lucas drew his sword, the final soldier stepped a few steps back, but kept his cannon ready. Lucas finally sprinted toward the soldier at full speed, the man fired the cannon, Lucas dodged it, the man staggered. Lucas slashed him, knocking him out. The final soldiers were gone, but Lucas had a bad feeling more were coming. He took a few deep breaths, and then spoke. “Let’s go! There could be more.” Lucas led his friends deeper into the city, where the suburbs laid. They had won the fight, and defeated the silent assassins, they could protect themselves against the killsquad of the city.

Lucas, Daniel, and Catherine searched the golden empire, trying to find safety in the large crowded streets showered with light sprinted across a dark alley between two buildings. “I remember a secret place in this part of the city,” Catherinel spoke. “It's right around here.”  They felt the walls until one part gave way. “Aha! Here’s the spot,” Catherine exclaimed as the trap door opened.

“How do you know this?” Lucas asked.

“I grew up here in the suburbs,” Catherine replied. “I forgot a lot about this place, but I think it’s where we can stay for a while and try to find more about the government,” she added.

“And expose them to the city!” Daniel exclaimed.

They slowly went down into the dark underground base. It seemed like someone had been there before, but Lucas felt like it was not Catherine…, it was dark. but when Lucas raised up a luminous light, the bunker was revealed. The main room was filled with all the necessary supplies needed for Daniel to craft more items. There was another room where they could try to find information, and the last room in the very back had so many luminous lights Lucas couldn't count. Catherine’s foot had been badly burned, making it so the group had to keep their operations there until her ankle was healed. There was a table at the center of the hideout, and they all gathered around it, ready to plan for their next move.

“What should we do?” Daniel asked, he was looking at Lucas. Lucas thought for a moment, looked at his friends and had an idea.

“Remember the droid that could spy on the government you were making?” “Yeah,” Daniel replied.

“I think I know what to do…” Lucas had a smile on his face.

He instantly wrote down everything in his plan. The spy droid was going to get secret files, Catherine was going to be outside the steel tower and make sure everything was going well. Daniel meanwhile was going to control the spy droid and use the files to find a way to hack into the city’s news station, which is when Lucas would expose The Chosen One and then show the footage of the spy droid and the files. The task was daunting, but it was the only way to truly prove that The Chosen One was a fraud, and a shadow of who he was.
