Chapter 6
Lucas looked around the room. There was no way Catherine could have gotten all of the things in there into the bunker. Lucas took a closer look at the objects, he had a feeling someone had been here before that was not Catherine, someone who might have had the same goals as he and his friends had now.
Daniel called out to his friends, “I’ve found a first aid kit!” Lucas rushed over and so did Catherine with her injured foot, just much slower. They quickly put on the bandage, easing the pain she was feeling. Catherine was thinking about her mom. She was determined to find her, just like Lucas was determined to find his.
“Wait, how are we going to comunicate?” Lucas asked Daniel, who reached for his pocket and pulled out 3 walkie talkies.
“Take these,” He handed one to Lucas and Catherine.
“Oh!” Lucas took a book from his jacket pocket. “I need to do one more thing before we start the heist,” Lucas had been documenting his journey for a while now, and he needed to catch up with what had just happened. Lucas saw it as a way to tell his story, and maybe if he won, he could share the book with the city. Ten minutes later he was ready, and the droid was sent out to steal the files.
Catherine sprinted through the city streets, trying to find a way to get on one of the many tall skyscrapers. She went down alleyways that she had run down many times before, only this time it was different. She spotted a staircase out of the corner of her eye, and immediately started climbing up it. It was aged and rusty, it felt like it had not been used in years. Catherine tried to not draw attention to the people in the megastructure, but Catherine found it hard not to keep noise when the stairs were creaking beneath her. Catherine looked down, it was a long way down, she had to be careful. Each step the creaking sound got louder. Catherine started to hold on to the railing, and then, “CRACK!” Half of the stairs came down, leaving Catherine stranded on the railing. She was ten feet from the rest of the stairs, but she needed to go quick, she was losing her grip. Catherine grimaced as she went up the railing, trying not to look down. She finally found her footing, Catherine recovered her position and then got on the stairs, and made her way to the top. While that was happening, Daniel was moving the spy closer and closer to the Tower. A camera back at the bunker projected the droid’s progress to Lucas and Daniel. They hoped that they could share that camera with the city.
“Can it go up the walls?” Lucas asked.
“No, it is going to have to go in the building…” Daniel sounded apprehensive, and so was Lucas. If they failed, it would be a big loss in the attack against The Chosen One.
Catherine got out a pair of binoculars, and peered into the Tower. He saw thousands of people, some members of the government and some not. Then, she saw it. “I should look in the lower floors,” She thought. Then she saw it, on the bottom floor there were incredible amounts of paper piled up. It seemed to be in the basement, something Catherine didn’t think anyone knew existed except for the government. At the entrance the droid approached the skyscraper, and carefully Daniel tried to keep it unnoticed from the police. The small droid scampered its way under the soldier's legs. Lucas stood behind Daniel, bracing for the worst, Daniel tried turning his invention.
“Shoot!” He yelled. He had lost the controls, and the robot headed to the soldier’s foot! “No!” Lucas cried. It quietly hit the shoe.
“What was that?” One of the soldiers asked the other. “I didn't hear anything.”
Lucas and Daniel both let out a big sigh of relief. The plan was still intact, and the daunting task had reached its next part. Lucas held his walkie talkie. Beep! A bit of distortion rang out of the machine.
“Catherine, are you there? The Droid is in the Tower,” Lucas felt like a spy leading a secret mission. Lucas knew his imagination could help him be determined and discover new ideas.
“Nice!” Catherine replied. “Get him to the lower floors, I think that is where the documents are,”
Lucas nodded. “Thanks,” “Daniel, look for an entrance to the basement!” Daniel nodded and attempted to find the way to the basement.
The camera showed the interior of the superstructure, which was rich and luxurious. It was a crystal ballroom, dancers twirled across the room, and everyone there seemed to be higher class. Jazz music played in the background, bringing life to the dancers. Lucas noticed the room, but he felt mad the city had done so little to help the encased hamlet. Their quality of life was greatly different, and it was only going to get worse. “That’s why we need to defeat The Chosen One.” Lucas thought. Daniel was mastering the controls, and his knowledge of technology greatly helped him. Three floors up in the tower, The Chosen One was getting ready to head downstairs for the party. He fastened his tuxedo and looked at himself through a mirror.
“How much money am I making with this party?” The Chosen One asked one of his servants.
“About 10 million dollars sir, but the encased hamlet has an extreme food shortage now along with the water shortage-”
“Wait,” The Chosen One cut him off. “Does that get me money?”
“No sir,”
“Forget about the food shortage, we need to start preparing to launch the final attack…” The Chosen One told him quietly. The servant quickly rushed away, and The Chosen One started down the stairs, a trio of soldiers escorted him down. People turned their attention as he walked down and cheered. “What’s going on?” Lucas thought. Daniel used the distraction well. Now he could see, he controlled the droid and attempted to find the basement, but even he moved the camera to see the man who was walking down the stairs. First they saw 3 guards around him. Second, they saw an expensive tuxedo. Finally they saw his face. The room erupted with chants, for The Chosen One had arrived. Lucas was surprised to see him. He was going to face him, but the power that he had struck fear into Lucas’s heart. Lucas still knew though that determination had to overcome terror. Just then, as the droid tried to find a secret base, it hit something. Daniel moved the camera to what was in their way, and he saw a trapdoor. No one was close to the robot, everyone was gathered around The Chosen One. Daniel lifted the trapdoor and went in. What Lucas and Daniel saw was a dark room stacked to the brim with papers, the files that could help show the truth.“Yes!” Daniel exclaimed. Lucas smiled. “We found the way in!” Lucas told Catherine through the walkie talkie. Catherine peered out of the binoculars. More soldiers were entering, and some were headed to the trapdoor. “Be quick! We got guards going toward the trap door,” Lucas nodded, and informed Daniel. There was the sound of footsteps above the robot, and Daniel was desperately searching around for a hiding spot for the droid. He spotted a box just big enough to hide the machine. The mechanoid skittered back there right as the trapdoor opened. 2 men were in a conversation, and they both held a stack of papers. One of them was wearing a robe, the uniform of a servant. “The Chosen One said to ignore the food shortage…” The servant said to the soldier. Lucas had heard about it, he was shocked the government would ignore it. They’re silencing the people! Lucas thought. “Lets just put these papers in a box and be done with them,” The soldier replied. They then went toward the box that the machine was behind. Lucas braced for the worse, but nothing happened, because Daniel had moved the droid without them even noticing! The people left, and the droid carried some files out of the basement and soon he was out of the tower. Catherine spotted it and went down to get it, where she picked it up and got it to the bunker.
