Chapter 7
“How did you make that?” Lucas asked Daniel.
“Used a Luminous light as the base, then I created the camera, legs, which I based off a spider’s, and when you asked me to steal the files using the robot, I made it so the legs could hold paper!” Daniel explained.
Just then, Catherine arrived back at the bunker.
“Let’s hack that station,” She told them. Catherine ran to the computer, and searched through the files.
it has to be here, it has to be here! Catherine thought. She scrambled through the papers, and on the final one she found the code. Catherine relaxed. She entered the code. “It’s always on at this time!” Lucas called to her. Catherine entered the final line just as Lucas finished preparing. “Ready!” They both said, and Catherine pushed enter.
Meanwhile, the station’s anchor was talking about the encased hamlet. “The Chosen One has dismissed the calls for more food in the encased hamlet, calling it buffoonery and lies. The golden empire has sided with The Chosen One, and we all know his knowledge is great and we should all respect him.” As Lucas watched the news before they hacked the station he thought “Yeah right, he's even controlling what they say on the news,” Lucas took a deep breath. “Three, two, one. We are on the air!” Catherine exclaimed. “In other news, the three children who The Chosen One calls, “Great enemies” are still at large-” Just then, for all the people in The Shining City with their tv’s on, the channel was switched to showing Lucas in the bunker, ready to tell the watchers what was going on. “We are the three people the city has been looking for, and we hacked this station to show you The Chosen One’s true self, a truth that does not care about your well being and the working class, one that only cares about people that could get him money and power.” He spoke. “We are all twelve year olds who have teamed up to try and overthrow the dictator who is leading your city,” Lucas continued. “It seems like you have rights, but The Chosen One has been taking them away for profit. Check the stats, it's true. There are people who are starving in the encased hamlet, and there are many issues that the news and The Chosen One are lying about, and it’s up to you to expose them,” That was all of the info from the files. Lucas knew he had more time, but how could he use it? Lucas had an idea. He pulled out the notebook he had that had the story of the journey. He told that story, from losing his mom to that point. When he was done, he said, “Lead a revolution, and we can defeat the tyrant that is currently our leader. Thank you,” The tv switched back to the news just as confusion was at a breaking point at the station. The anchor, confused about what was going on, stuttered as they tried to explain what had just happened. “Well, we-we just had some technical difficulties, and uh, that was all a lie.” The anchor started scrambling around the room. “They figured it out!!!” was the only thing that could be heard if you were there. Across the city, people young and old had started supporting the 3 children and inspired people were soon going to find ways to protest their leader. The twelve year olds rested as it turned night, trying to be ready for the next day while also knowing they had struck a huge blow in The Chosen One’s image.
The next day, as the cold fall weather rolled in, the story of the hacking was exploding with popularity, and Lucas didn't even know because he was stuck in the bunker. The news station was dismissing the incident, same with The Chosen One. Soldiers were searching every corner of the city, and the encased hamlet was rallying for Lucas and his friends. “We should see how the city is reacting,” Catherine insisted. Lucas nodded. “How do we know there aren't any soldiers around? We should keep our location unknown to them,” Daniel told them. “True, we can’t reveal anything, but we have to know what is happening,” Lucas replied. “I’ll go out there,” Catherine insisted. “At least take something to stay warm and be anonymous.” Lucas knew that no one else had a jacket. “Here, have mine,” Lucas handed Catherine the jacket. “Thank you,” Catherine spoke. She left the bunker, and Lucas used the time to attempt to find more about the secret base. He had a feeling something was there, a clue that could help lead him to finding the truth about the mystery of what happened ten years ago, on the mysterious night when the city burned.
Lucas looked around the bunker, turning stones over and seeing if there was anything under one. It was interesting, investigating things to find secrets. “Just like his father,” Lucas thought. The farther Lucas went into the bunker, the darker it got. Eventually he had to use a Luminous Light to see. He found nothing still as he was reaching the end of the hideout. Just keep looking, there has to be something here, leave no stone unturned. He thought. Finally, on the final rock, he heard something. It sounded like glass. Lucas turned over the rock slowly, and Below it was a magnifying glass “Property of Mark Winslow,” Lucas read. He was amazed. His father had been here! “Wow! Investigating stuff can help you find new things,” Lucas told himself. He wrote it down in his note book. Lucas felt glad he found an artifact that was connected to his dad, but many other things needed to be solved. Lucas sat down just as Catherine entered with a newspaper in hand. “I found this on the street, apparently it is the newest issue!” She exclaimed. Catherine handed the newspaper to him.
The City is protesting!
Encased Hamlet Times
The City has been in mayhem ever since last night the 3 children (led by a boy named Lucas.) Hacked a tv station and told much of what was going on behind what people usually see on the tv. People are doing whatever they can to support the kids. They have been defying The Chosen One’s orders while exposing the abuse of human rights in the city! There have been multiple battles between them and police and The 3 have won every one. These people are inspiring the people of the city.
“Oh my goodness!” Lucas reacted surprised. “I am glad The Encased Hamlet has a newspaper.”
“Thank you for the jacket, everyone outside was shivering,” Catherine added. She handed the jacket to Lucas.
“Anytime,” Lucas replied. “I found a magnifying glass of my dad’s while exploring,” he told her. “I think the bunker was used ten years ago, but I do not know what my father or his allies' goals were. I do know that they were for good though,”
Daniel ran in, pausing his work on a new project. “What did you two find?” He asked. Catherine gave the newspaper to Daniel. The engineer read it. “Dang! That was a success!" Lucas showed the magnifying glass to Daniel. He stood there amazed. “This was your fathers!”
The rest of the day was spent in the bunker working on new ideas and plans. Their imaginations had gotten them far, and they were going to need to use them if they wanted any chance to destroy the government. Daniel was drawing out blueprints to a walkie talkie that could communicate with others from ten miles away, Catherine was making changes to his bow, and Lucas was practicing with his sword more than ever. That night Lucas wrote more in his notebook than he had ever done before, staying up till twelve. He thought about his mom, He thought about his friends and their wellbeing, he thought about all the mysteries surrounding Catherine’s mom, but most of all, he thought about defeating The Chosen One and saving the city, before it was too late.
