The Things You Will Become- Chapter 8

Chapter 8

The next morning, one that brought a sunrise that Lucas and his friends marveled at, started out normal. Daniel got out all the materials he needed to craft the communication system. Daniel had been gathering scrap metal from battles for a while, and his collection was immense. Daniel had pieces of the Full Moon Agent’s cannons, clubs from the police, and much else. What should I choose? Daniel thought as he looked over his stuff. He picked out some parts of the old cannon.

Catherine was trying to piece together all the info she knew about his mom. There were some things that didn't line up, some that did, and stuff that did not make sense. There was a theory she had though. It all leads back to the fire, she thought. Just then, the sound of police sirens rang near the bunker. “Stay quiet!” Lucas cried. The next few seconds were completely silent, until the sound of footsteps started. They got louder and louder. Lucas knew what was happening. They had been found.

“Ready!” A voice called. “Aim!”

“Get out!” Lucas yelled.

“Fire!”

The blast sounded like a thousand bullets being shot at once and the power of the explosion was even more powerful than that. The three were all knocked back, the bunker was obliterated, but they were all alive. Ash and debris were all Lucas could see, his face was covered with dust, and he was pinned down by rocks, which covered his arms and legs. He looked over, his friends were both unconscious, also pinned down by the rubble. Lucas had a Luminous Light in his hand, and he made a sword. He knew what he had to do. Lucas sliced the rocks in half, Lucas was free. Clutching a sword, Lucas ran toward where the projectile came from. Lucas could not see anything with dust all around him, he just knew that  in front was where the police were, and he was going to make them pay. Lucas emerged from the dust, there were two dozen soldiers and agents waiting for him. Lucas just smiled, even through the pain of the explosion. “For the city,” Lucas told himself.

The first attack was made by him, Lucas sprinted at enemies, slashing

them and making them fall to the ground. Boom! The sound of the cannons could be heard as Full Moon Agents shot at him. All of them missed. Lucas took out more policemen. His friends were still unconscious helping him in his ambush. As most of the soldiers were defeated, Full Moon Agents replaced them, keeping the fight going, but Lucas used what he had done before, parrying the strikes. Eventually there was one agent left. Lucas charged, made a large cut, and ended the fight. Lucas rushed to his friends, he cut the rocks and looked at their injuries, ignoring his own.

 “Wake up!” He yelled.

Slowly, Daniel and Catherine woke, and Lucas breathed a deep sigh of relief.

“Wha… what happened,” Daniel said, dazed.

He brushed himself off and got up. Catherine looked over at the soldiers who were on the ground, stunned. She also got on her feet.

“So we were ambushed, and they found our location,”

“Yup,” Lucas replied.

“You fended off all of those policemen!? After the blast?” Catherine stood there amazed. Lucas just shrugged.

“Yup, are you both okay?” Catherine and Daniel both nodded.

“Where are they!?”

“Quick, there is more,” Lucas ran out of the alley.

The city was bustling with people, and it was very crowded. Superstructures were everywhere, and Lucas, Daniel and Catherine could hear the sound of markets and trade. As Lucas ran with Daniel and Catherine following, people turned their attention to them.  He looked back. Full Moon Agents were everywhere, watching. One wrong move could have them notice our heroes. Lucas noticed an avenue, hopefully there were no foes there. The street had less people, no skyscrapers lined the way. It was quite quiet, unlike the street it connected to. Lucas tried to remember where this street led to just as Catherine and Daniel approached him. We can’t be lost, Lucas thought. Then, he remembered the bridge. Lucas observed his surroundings. He had to be close to the crescent moon river. Lucas started sprinting through the streets of the golden empire, his friends following close behind. Three secret agents scouted the area, cannons in their hands. Lucas first thought about avoiding them, but as he and his friends got closer to the canal, it became harder to ignore them. They were so close, there was only one block in between them and the bridge, but the agents blocked the path. Lucas, Daniel and Catherine regrouped behind a building out of sight from the fighters.

“What should we do?” Daniel whispered. “

“Lets give them a taste of their own medicine,” Lucas proposed.

Catherine and Daniel nodded. Ambushing them was the best option. Lucas stayed quiet as he got closer.

“You know, The Chosen One has his entire force ordered to kill the three children if they are seen. Why are they attacking them?” A young policeman asked another.

“Well, The Chosen One said that the encased hamlet is doing just fine, but the kid named Lucas is telling the people otherwise. Nonetheless, The Chosen One stopped the fire, so I don’t know for sure. Lets just hope the future is going to be good just like The Chosen One said it would be with the city under his rule,” Another One who Lucas estimated was only a bit older than the first one replied.

Lucas stayed there for a moment. The Chosen One was telling lies about the past, present, and even the future. The third one stayed quiet. He was older, and he was the only one that had a chance to see Lucas.

Lucas stopped for a moment, The Chosen One was lying about the past, present, and future. The only way to end this was to end his fascist regime. Lucas readied, and charged at the policemen. Lucas swung his sword, knocking all of them back. The three agents fired their cannons, attempting a counterattack but Lucas evaded them easily. He then swung his sword again, this time with more power. The enemies were almost unconscious. Lucas then did one last slash, and the bridge was safe to cross for him and his friends. The three went to the other side of the city, they had lost much of their supplies, and without a headquarters, the friends were talking about where they could go next.

“We need to go somewhere with resources that we have a lot of knowledge about,” Daniel told them.

“It needs to be safe too,” Catherine added.

“I know where we could go, but it does not have a lot of food. Still we will launch the final attack soon, so it does not really matter,” Lucas said determinedly.

“What is it?” Catherine asked eagerly.

“It’s my old home,” Daniel looked surprised. It got dark as they crossed the bridge. The crescent moon river glittered. The sun set as they entered the encased hamlet. There was one week to the day that marked ten years since the night of the fire. Which had been ignored by The Chosen One, even with the lives lost that night. Lucas remembered it well.

It became midnight as they got to Lucas’s house. Lucas entered first and turned on the light. It was messy, ravaged by The Chosen One’s soldiers. It was a sad reminder of the past for Lucas. Catherine explored it, figuring out where everything was. Daniel was trying to find any materials he could use to make new tech. Lucas went up to his room, where he had figured out his powers. He pulled out the luminous light that he had used, and there is where he practiced for the final battle.
