i stand
heels sinking into the wet sand beneath
the tide rushes up
passing over my bare feet
the water
clear and cold
shocking my once dry feet
prompting me dart away
to the safety of the
dry, sun kissed, sand
yet i stand my ground
digging my heels even deeper
into the sand
that sits below the waves
the water retreats
leaving my bare feet
vulnerable
to the salty sea breeze
again the tide rushes up
passing over my bare feet
but this time
i wiggle my toes
embracing the cold that the water brings
i stare out
to the melted sky above me
the horizon
just skimming
the vast sea ahead of me
two worlds meeting
just barely.
