Universal languages, as observed in Montreal

Universal languages are -

something you understand without speaking.

How you connect with people of

different.

Cultures, places, traditions.

How you love people who are not the same as you.

Nobody is the same.

Smiles.

Grinning,

exchanging looks.

It doesn't matter if you know what the joke is.

Laughter.

Shared communication

says everything and nothing.

Just laugh with one another.

Holiday spirit.

French Christmas carols being sung over the loudspeakers

the hustle and bustle of mixed English and French

the love

joyfully singing along

looking glowingly at a neighbor.

Music.

Everybody has their favorite tunes -

why not share them?

It doesn't matter what language

it's apparent what it's about

rhythm

feeling.

We could all stand to feel a little more.

  • Envelope

    My science teacher accused me

    playfully and yet fiercely

    of stealing an envelope

I had been threatening to peel the cover strip off of the sticky part

    so it glues together

because it was just so tempting.

  • I believe

I believe in America and I believe in who we could be

but I don't believe in who we are.

It's so easy to give up and let them reign.

    I am.

I'm scared to stand up or say things and I haven't before,

    and I won't.

  • True love

    True love.

    Love that's true.

    Love you know

    in your heart

    is you and another person.

I guess I like to think I'm in love

    I never really know.
