An elephant never forgets.
No matter how long ago the dogs bit,
No matter how long ago we were hit,
We won't forget.
It keeps us safe, as we walk down the street,
When all I hear is the pounding of my feet,
Echoed by the pound of my heartbeat.
I'll never forget.
The time when the bark didn't bite,
The time I didn't have to fight,
The time when the cats didn't cry to the night,
The time I was out of mind, and sight.
I sometimes wish I could forget.
Then, I wouldn't feel the loss of walking at night.

The Weight
How can someone handle all this weight? This never-ending pressure is slowly crushing me. If ever I get a chance to breathe, and stretch my spine, it ends when the weight crashes back down.

Someone With Whom I Can Be
