we are the future.

in the halls, we lean against the bulletin boards

and whisper of the latest news, last night's breaking, articles snagged

in the moments before leaving for school. lots of adults

think we are too young to understand

but we are the future growing up in a country focused on the past,

and we will be the ones to make it out.

i quit hebrew school last week, after the rabbi defended

musk's nazi salute at the inauguration, told my friends and

they weren't surprised, asking if they could still come to my

now-rebellious bat mitzvah. lots of adults

think we are too young to understand

but we are the future growing up in a country focused on the past,

and we will be the ones to make it out.

spring is coming, the birds chirping sweet in the branches while

my best friend and i go thrifting, remembering our mothers

using costco instead of amazon, boycotting target during february, tiny

rebellions made real to us at last. lots of adults

think we are too young to understand

but we are the future growing up in a country focused on the past,

and we will be the ones to make it out.

i really hope we will be the ones to make it out.
