We Are Human.

with the words that spill from lips of blue
faded things
and memories
oak trees and summer sun on backs on winding road
as night and day come and go
mixing spinning
melding into one big beautiful mess that is you
the sun is dancing in your eyes
and the weight of the world that lifts with your smile
as you place one foot after another
sure of your path as you are your own self
unafraid you march into battle
with the doubts and the fear
the hate and the anger
you slay each and every harmful emotion
with the simple but powerful notion
that kindness reaps the best results
and even the most perfect of things has its perfect faults
human is human
not robot
pain that ricochets back once you think it's gone
hurt that runs deeper than something a bandaid can heal
joy that makes the cold seem less bitter
loss that tears our lives apart, but also drives us closer together
love that builds our families higher, and breaks apart the hate
lust that flows through our veins and torments us while asleep and awake
we are human
as the sun coats us in the dripping heat of the afternoon
and the wind alights from our shoulders
and the cool lake water laps at our toes
we are human
as the trees grow
and birds sing
and heavens drip their tears onto our upturned faces
we are human
as this world
is alive.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
