We Watched the Sunset Upside-Down

With hair dripping,

Splashed with the stars

Not yet visible to our eyes,

We jumped,

Dived,

Splashed into the pathway

Of sunlight

Glittering across the lake,

Trying to run across it

Into our dreams

That danced in our eyes

As we dangled our heads

Over the dock

To watch the sun rise from the clouds

And fall into the sky

Of the mountains;

The watercolored sunset seeped

Its colors into our hearts,

Staining it with both our story

And the story that would become

The dream-steeped version of friendship

That we would draft the ideas of

While sitting on the rug in our towels,

Hair still dripping

With the stars,

Hope still splashing

Across the glittering pathway

Of our sunrise:

Where the great star was born

From the sky

And faded into the lake

Where we floated,

Necks straining to see the world

We have claimed as our own.
