We will fight
gaining the power
of the women who came before
stand tall stand strong
against your walls
hand in hand.
All these years
we have stood
behind the faces of men
only stepping into the light
when told we can.
All these years
I have watched girls
grow quiet
when the boys
get loud.
I have watched
girls protect themselves
by changing
as to appeal to the eyes of men.
I have watched
their eyes
scan our bodies
searching for what
their greedy eyes want the most
a little bit of skin
peeking through
as if that's all they care about.
I have watched
as girls gather
away from the boys
form a silent army
and yet
stack against each other
the minute it matters
who is most pretty?
When in the end
all that really matters
is that you notice
how we shape ourselves
to appeal to men
how we weave around them.
We say we have all our rights
and yet
I see how girls cry
when they don't look like her
I listen to my friends
say they will never be enough
I listen to my guy friends
say they don't feel
like they are enough.
So
open your eyes
notice
all these things
how girls cover their tummies
how guys pretend they don't cry
how girls show off their boobs
how guys act like they are bad at school
how girls try to be perfect.
NOTICE
That you can still change
the way we have made things
you can still speak up
when a girl needs help
when a guy needs to cry.
WE WILL NOT STOP
FIGHTING FOR LOVE
