When the World is gone

“Life is beautiful in every way,” I think to myself.

I sit on a chair in the screened-in porch, alone.

Where only the trees can hear me now.

The birds are singing with pride in the morning sunlight,

and the sun shyly hides his face behind the clouds.

Early mornings are wonderful as night and day.

I wish the world would always be this gorgeous.

But people are hurting this place we call home.

And they say one day life will end.

When the world is gone, there will be no birds to sing your songs with.

When the world is gone, there will be no trees to protect you when it rains.

When the world is gone, there will be no wind to cool you when it’s hot.

When the world is gone, there will be no sun to wake you, no sun to see.

There will be no plants or animals to talk to when you’re lonely.

No water to be the seven seas.

When the world is gone, there will be no clouds to shield you from the sun.

There will be no lakes to swim in or walk across when it gets cold.

There will be no mountains to hike on, to see the world down below.

When the world is gone, there will be no spring, summer, autumn, winter,

No seasons at all!

“None of these things! Who cares!?” They say, “Because life will fall.”

But the world will not truly be dead.

All the plants and the animals will survive somehow.

And we can help!

Starting now.
