winter can be mean

frosty flakes flutter
in a delicate dance of death
to the gray slush covered ground

cheeks are rosy and red
like apples in fall
fall they do
fall down on the ice
and those soft rosy cheeks streak with tears

the winter is not all nice

but we take the picture from the pretty side
showing what want's to be seen,
but like so many things,
it should not be the only thing
we take in

yes there is a pretty side
clean white yards
unstained by footprints in the morn
tiny ice rinks made by yesterday's warmer storm
the peaceful quiet of the great outdoors
blanketed in snow.

but that's not the only thing to winter
don't you know?
blizzards raging
cars off the road
snowdrifts taller than the doors
the winter can be wild
rough
and cold.

so please take caution
this peaceful facade you face
is just like me
calm and put together it seems
but inside is a fire fierce and mean
a fire made of ice
you've been warned
now please take heed.

(don't know where I was going with this, it just came out, so I let it.)

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears

    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
