Any Other Day

Halloween,
an exciting day,
that I always look forward to,
that I always get excited about,
no matter the circumstance.
The costumes,
the candy,
the friends,
family.
The chill of brittle air
against my fingers,
as I run from house to house.
The coming home to
the smell of hot apple cider,
waiting to be sipped slowly,
for if I let too much slip through my lips,
I know for sure
that it will burn my tongue.
Two years ago,
it rained on Halloween.
I was lucky that year,
because an umbrella was
part of my costume.
This year,
rain falls in the morning,
delicate,
but still making me doubtful.
If only it would fall on any other day,
any other Monday,
or Tuesday or Wednesday.
It chose Halloween,
and it taunts me,
telling me that to take part in this night,
I'll have to be soaked,
but that won't stop me.
It won't stop anybody else,
because this day only comes
once a year,
and I have no patience
to wait another.
