Racing

My nerves are racing
faster than I will
as I stand
in the start gate
"Ready?" the starter asks
"Go!"
I push through the wand
skate, push, pass the first gate
Crap turn
Outside ski pressure
forward forward forward
Crap hairpin
I'm okay, I'm good, I'm doing good
Under gate, reset
I'm getting a good rhythm
Crap that flush came up fast
Whoops! Almost fell, stay off the inside ski
Okay, rhythm back
Crap hairpin
turn turn turn
kind of in a rhythm
Crap hairpin
finish finish I'M FINISHED!
What was my time
39.40 seconds
Not bad
Adrenaline falling
still shaking
First run down
second run to go
WOOT!

I like how you included the thoughts going through your head as you raced down that mountain. It sounds like a lot of writers on this site are ski racers. I myself am I downhill alpine skier, but I don't compete. I like your first line. It really sets the mood and hooked me in as the reader. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Thanks for sharing!
