The Silence

An excerpt from the Journal of Andrew Knight:

March 31

Returned to Bristol to retrieve all of the artwork I had left from AP Studio Arts. The trip was bittersweet; Bristol was its quiet, picturesque self - seemingly unchanged as it sat at the feet of the Green Mountains.

Though when I was allowed inside Mount Abraham, what struck me was the silence.
The sight of the hallways being so empty, so devoid of life deeply unsettled me in a way I still don't entirely understand. Without the traffic of hundreds of students and teachers, the corridors seemed to stretch on endlessly. I was a ghost drifting among these familiar halls as a reminder of what once was.
There I was, the young man whose voice read so many morning announcements, now speechless.
