two kids

two kids
one dropped penny
in a large grocery store full of tired parents and screaming babies

two kids
both so different
in place so normal it was insane

but then again not
for those two kids
normal didn't exist
nobody told them it was wrong
to be who they are

they were both brought up
in supportive homes
with loving families
but still felt alone

two kids in a grocery store
who fought against forgetting
who they were behind their faces

two kids in a grocery store
bonded by fate
stuck together by dropped coins and broken dreams

two kids in a grocery store
you and me.

  • The Boxes In The Corner

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
