I Watch

I watch
as the early morning sunlight
peeks through my window shades
casting it's golden glow
across the placid sea of my covers
how I long
to lie here forever
and revel in the freedom
of dreamland

I watch
as the glow of the moon
replaces the fading colors of day
with a soft
but cold light
gently illuminating the frozen hills that surround
and making everything sparkle

I watch
as my dear siblings
laugh
and smile
and smirk
when they learn they've grown
yet another inch

I watch
as the mountains
put on their festive white hats
and the trees dress
in elegant gowns of ice

I watch
as day turns to night
summer turns to autumn
child turns to teen
I sit
and sing
and I watch
as the world lives.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
