what makes a write

weaving phrases
from emotion
melding love with hate
and a random object
time eclipsing all biased reason
and people crying tears like rain
four different themes
or was it five?
smushed together
with an extravagant word here and there
making a very confusing
thing we call a poem
practically from thin air
it might rhyme
or fall in time
with a favorite song
scratch your head
and twitch your fingers
cause it's writing your doing now
there is no in
or out
no up
and down
nor side to side
only pencil, paper, brains and time
that makes an idea
a write.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
