What a Shame...

What a shame-

that our world shows us such kindness,

and we turn around and stab her in the back.

We don't deserve her.

Traitors: that's what we are,

to overlook the life she brings

as we drill into her skin

and take what she is not yet ready to give

She shows us kindness still.

She is not well; that is our doing.

What a shame.

Her trees grant us the air we breathe

and we rip their roots from the soil,

yet she grows us more.

She can't do this forever.

She can't save us from the destruction we've caused.

We are hers, she is not ours.

So why do we treat her like she is?

Our mother,

our giver of life,

our caretaker,

powerless against her unruly children;

poking her,

prodding her,

pulling out her hair.

And she laughs, picks herself up, and cleans up our mess.

But she is tired, and her children never grow up.

We know that she is hurting.

She knows that we know,

and she watches us do nothing about it.

She wonders, after all she has done for us,

what she did to deserve this.

She is dying.

We are killing her.

What a shame.

  • the box

they put me in a box and i want to get out

    "let me go!" i scream

but the lid is too tight

they put me in a box but i'm too big to fit

    it's hurting my head

    and it's pinching my skin

  • stars

    it's amazing

how things that once were nothings

can shine so brilliantly in the sky

to be admired simply for existing

it must be lonely up there

    to attract such attention

    yet remain unnoticed

  • And my home

    It's too hot

    and it's too humid

    and I'm awake too early

    and I miss my home

    My bunk bed is lopsided

and we let mosquitoes into the cabin

    and the showers are dirty

    and my socks are wet
