In 2050,
In Vermont:
I hope there will be
the same amount
of forest,
but there may
be less
as there is now
from 1990.
I hope my children
will know
clean rivers,
but it is possible
that they won't
swim the way I know it.
I hope my parents
can grow old
in a quiet valley
with loving neighbors,
but who knows
if the valleys
will soon be gone
to construction.
I hope to make
the future I want
but I am not sure
that I can control
even this.
