i haven't seen my best friend in six days and i've already watched all our old videos with the bad lighting & worse camera angles, clicked through the pictures of us together and got all sentimental like i have a pretty awesome life after all, overflowed her notifications with countdowns for two days' time when we'll meet at overnight camp and make up for time lost, ate popcorn & missed her obsession with dumping li hing mui powder over every kernel we eat, laughed over her replies, rubbed my thumb against my calendar where she wrote in black Sharpie CAMP HOCHELAGA w/ meee <3, and realized despite all the teasing and fights and hard edges i'd love my best friend if it was six days or sixty and i can't wait to see her again.

hanukkah miracles
my walk home.
the 4 p.m. sunset already lighting the shamash on the horizon,
melting the mountains like orange wax.
lunch with my friends, onion rings & coconut yogurt

hoping for snow
I walk home wearing twin braids with bows
and a big smile because I'm wishing for snow.
Snow like a blanket, thick and white,
I want it to fall all through the night -
to cover the roads and the trees and the hills,

and her laugh was infectious and her smile was too
and her eyes sparkled when they caught the light. she walked
