"A graffiti artist and nerd." Kelly grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Alex just shook her head and stuffed her hands into her jean pockets.
"I'm not a nerd." She muttered defensively. Her breath hung in the cold air for just a moment before it vanished. That seemed to be the most interesting thing about this street, she noted looking away from the tall, gray, uniform buildings and staring down at the cobblestone walkway.
"I know, I know." Kelly said, a grin dancing across her face as she walked on. Alex shot her a suspicious glare.
"I'm not." she muttered again.
Kelly just chuckled and nodded. Alex shook her head, and went back to staring at the cobblestone. She closed her eyes a moment listening to the rhythm of sneakers against the sidewalk. Her and Kelly's sneakers to be precise; there was no one else out here this late.
"It's nice out." Kelly tried, casting a worried glance in Alex's direction.
Heartache ripped through her youthful chest as she staggered down the streets. Before her tear-rimmed emerald green eyes she only perceived blurry lines of neon blue, pink and green. The scent of oil and gas filled her nostrils, and she gagged. Her breaths were unsteady, and she felt the need to creep out of her skin, slither down into the ground. She felt the kind of despair that carves and seeps into bone, rather than exploding into a cascade of tears. But as she shifted her eyeballs to the side of her to face the vast, fuzzy foundation surrounding her, they became glazed with glassy layers of liquid. She blinked, and they slipped. She bit her bottom lip in an attempt to unexpose her emotions: her lungs were filled with wails that craved to escape, her eyes charged with tears which were only waiting for the trigger to be pulled.
The cold leeches into my stiff, patched and dirty blanket. The first sugar dusting is predicted to fall tonight. The first snow, blanketing the soot-blackened buildings. Small and golden, my little girl loved the snow. And now she is gone. The first cold wind of winter rustles my hat, carrying my it beyond reach. I am too old, too tired to pick it up. Besides, the night display is coming as soon as the blanket of smog and night make it difficult to see the loud signs of the city square.
“Grandma? Can you tell me one last story before I go to bed?” “Oh sweet Jade, that is a lot to ask for when you have had two in one night, but I guess so. What do you say, Shall we start in 3012, when I was a kid?” “Yea!” “All right, now you must remember, there was a lot going on in that time, humans stopped treating the earth poorly, discovered more species of animals, launched more experienced satellites and rockets into space and cured cancer. But, best of all, we discovered a magical place we named Coosania, a place where anything could come true and were magical things sort of like bubbles, floated around in the air, you could do almost anything with them. You could eat them and float around in them. They tasted like grapes. It really was an amazing place.
I woke up with noise drifting in from the streets.I stepped outside my apartment door, the cold air brushed against my cheeks turning them rosey red. I clutch my blanket and wrap it tighter around my body making sure the damp wind doesn't get in. I see people crowding the street , all of them looking of into the foggy night air. I gaze up at the stars, but to my surprise the sky is filled with colorful lights, blue, green, purple, and pink.I hold my breath amazed by the lights as they dance and swirl around me in bright lines.I stare at the lights they wave at me and I wave back. I watch the lights the twirl in their night, covering the stars but no one cares.I dream I am those lights, gowing and gleaming moving in harmony, dancing together discovering the world by night. I lived to see those lights, and I know when they come back there dance will be more beautiful than ever.
Ninjas. There on my tail a knife goes flying past my head. I hate being the bait especially ninja bate with all those swords and knifes and staffs and nunchucks. That isn’t even the worst this month! Lights, the nuclear reactor I have to stop it from going off if it does i’m dead they're dead where all dead which is very dumb because there gonna die as well. I run into a house and hide the house is quiet, dead quiet I think i've lost them but then I reconsider their ninjas then I see one point to the door through the crack of the cabinet and he goes out the door and see others following then I see them run down the street through the door. Suddenly i’m unconscious and the last second I feel numb and cold. I know what's coming.
