Tempest
She twirls
arms outstretched
Papers flutter to the floor
swept from the desk
by her tempest
The storm becomes ferocious
dislodging larger things
an empty cup
a tube of lip gloss
and a picture in a frame -
Apart
A hint of longing
every time I say goodbye
I want to talk a little longer
I want to crawl the screen to hug you
and tell you that everything's all right
but we'll have to be apart a little longer -
I'll Listen
I see that smile in your eyes
the way your cheeks are flushed
your entire face begins to glow
whenever you say his name
I elbow you and giggle
just like a good friend would
and tease you relentlessly -
Teens
Our brains are stuffed so full
they begin to leak
dripping knowledge
algebra
english
science
garbage
art
We tip over
from the loads
piled upon us
homework
expectations
college
jobs
