like energy 

it shape shifts

following those filled with passion

and hope

but appearing to leave 

at the slightest touch of pain

Hope is often used as a term to wish for something.

But hope is broad.

Vague.

Some people hope to win a sports game.

O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Does it? 

Is our pride in a land of freedom and bravery? 

If we get scared, they have us in their pockets.

If we don't, all they have is blood.

And blood is not a weapon. 

Just so you know, 

You are not a number, 

you are not a digit out of 10 

or a rating, 

you are not a GPA 

and you are not what you got on the SAT,
