I was small and stained with summer 
sun, grass blade knees, and scrapes 
all over. Morning dew and wild schemes, I lived 
inside the world of dreams where faeries hid 

You wrote a poem about me

It wasn’t very good

You said I made you a tortured poet

Then laughed

And it’s all a blur-

Isn’t it

Her name was Maria 

My mom's friend Maria 

La mariposa she says 

Soy la mariposa 

Because she spread her wings 

To the land of kings 

Do a spell on me.

Cast it quick to fix me.

I can't see your love

Where is your love?

Why do I not love

you?

Do a spell on me

To love you like you do me

Fill me with dreams of you

People relax on the beach

Swimming in the salty ocean

Running their toes through the sand

Taking in the scenery

And people dread homework

I could be on the beach

What makes me stop and wonder is how are we even here? 

How am I even writing this?

What miracle allowed us to come into existence?

Better question, why us?

Why not the sharks, the birds, the insects?
