noticings by a member of the human race

You, a byproduct of human existence, make place in a very many things, I’ve noticed, so here’s a very incomplete list.

I find you in torn fingernails.
I find you in the wind.
I find you in laughter, and love, which are sort of the same thing.
I find you in the moon’s song and the sun’s rays.
I find you in the fireflies.
I find you in dawn and dusk, and in my ordinary life.
I find you in ironies and coincidences.
I find you in youth, and in children’s cries.
I find you in the bubbles in a can of seltzer, and in the hallways of a premier inn.
I find you in the unheard places, and in the shadows of tall things.
I find you in line art and dance class and paintbrushes.
I find you in second-chances and perspective.
I find you in pounding feet and racing hearts.
I find you in sweet hibiscus tea, and others of that category.
I find you in the echoes of an amphitheater, in costumes physical and intangible.
I find you in the cracks of life itself.
I find you in history, and legacy.
I find you down rivers and roads and in the light of meteor showers that streak across the sky.
I find you in guitar strings and callused fingers.
I find you in foggy memories and dreams that leave a taste on your tongue.
I find you in smeared lipstick and bass drums.
I find you in harmonies and dusty piano keys.

                        I find you in rain.

I find you in the brightest places, and the darkest ones, too.

But I think, not without irony, I find you most often

                     in the simple search

                                      for you.
