YWP Academy: Diving deep!

YWP Academy is a new, exciting feature on this site that will help you with your school work, allow you to "mess around" with genres and digital media that interest you and engage you to deeply explore important issues with youths around the country and world.

YWP has begun to pilot the workshops in the Academy with a small group of you. THANKS! The input -- and your experiences with these cool workshops -- has been invaluable. The Workshops being offered are fun, bite-sized exercises with feedback, live interaction with the instructor and a finished piece you can be proud of.
We are continuing to accept applications for this FREE pilot phase!

The pilot is simple: Anyone aged 12-19 is asked to take at least two Workshops and provide us feedback. The application process is easy - just tell us who you are, why you're interested and what you want to learn.
This begins November 7 and runs through December 31.

In exchange, we'll give you FREE year-long access to YWP Academy in 2017 (memberships are valued at $120 each). Questions? Send them to [email protected].

THE LATEST AND GREATEST

Young Writers Project is SUPER excited to announce a pilot of its latest innovation, YWP Academy (formerly, Digital Learning Center). This new area of our site has been designed -- with help of some of your community leaders and YWP Fellows -- to help you gain basic and specific writing and digital media skills and explore specific topics in a way our primary community and many schools just can't. Here's how it works: you tell us your interests and how you learn best, and we translate those into fast, fun online Workshops. An artist designs and leads each one, a mentor provides feedback on every post and you gain skills and knowledge (and publishable work and friends). It's that easy! Plus, we help you find ways to make these count for school credit.

BUT, LIKE, WHAT IS YWP ACADEMY?

YWP Academy is a members-only space on youngwritersproject.org where YWP has a changing, evolving collection of Workshops inspired by youth-suggested writing and digital media topics.

Workshops are artist-led, online projects aimed at helping 12-to-19-year-olds develop a specific skill or explore a particular topic. They are broken into bite-sized pieces where you learn by creating and sharing content and exchanging feedback with mentors, peers and the Workshop instructor.

Though the topics and skills vary, all Workshops allow participants to develop their own ideas, learn at their own pace and finish with a tangible product, which they can then include in their learning portfolios and/or polish for publication.

Needs-based Workshops cover some basic skills you need in writing to do better in school, to help you get a job and to help you in college prep.
Skill-based Workshops cover the things you have told us you want to know, but can't get in school.
Topic/issue-based Workshops use writing and digital media to explore a specific issue or question.

Workshops are rated for difficulty and complexity on a scale from 1 (anyone can participate) to 3 (chops recommended). We also estimate the time needed to complete the Workshop -- which will always result in a piece of work you can be proud of (or use in your school portfolio). Do enough of these, you can approach your school and see if you can get academic credit.

We will do our best to stack the Academy with level 1 and 2 Workshops that give you ALL the skills you need to take a level 3.

Be one of the first to try out YWP Academy!

Please feel free to sign up to participate in the pilot phase and help us make it better. The application process takes three minutes - just tell us who you are, why you're interested and what you want to learn. Questions? Send them to GG at [email protected].

Hi Madison C - we got your application and you're in! The pilot starts November 1st, though, so you'll be hearing from us in October with specifics and instructions. Can you help us spread the word so we have a full house?

I applied as soon as I could, but just recently I got an email asking me to apply. I tried reapplying but a thing popped up saying the form was out of date. Did you get my application?

We will be emailing everyone who is accepted within the next two weeks, to get you on the same page before the start of the pilot. But, there are still spaces available, so you can count on being accepted if you fill the form in :)
