Our Home.

Mother Earth holds us all in her arms,

engulfing us in a comfortable beauty.

She keeps us safe,

as we travel around the sun.

She’s gifted us the oceans and lakes,

the mountains and hills,

the flowers and herbs,

the animals, whose home this is too.

We’ve taken this for granted,

Throwing away the beauty of our home.

Driven by greed, we’re always searching for something more.

Even when the tide’s ripping away the shore.

Even when the snow finds itself south rather than north.

Even when the ice caps are melting due to an unnatural warmth.

Even when rain floods and erodes the land.

Even when wildfires burn homes of animals and humans alike.

We’ve taken so much, and continue to take,

We’ve ignored the land,

and cast aside the animals,

not caring for their wellbeing, just ours.

I’m afraid they’ll never care,

not until it’s far beyond repair.
