I am trying to teach myself piano. Does anyone have any advice? I have some issues with fine motor control, especially with my left side (I’m right handed), so it’s a bit tricky at the moment. I would really appreciate any tips!

I’ve been teaching myself piano now for about three years and that’s still hard for me too! Honestly what works for me is just practicing slowly (like, annoyingly slow) over and over. When you get a feel for whatever the song is and the coordination sort of ‘clicks’ in your head (I’m not quite sure how to explain that) then you should be able to start playing faster and the movements should be more fluid. Sometimes I practice with just my left hand, then the same for my right, and then together!
I’m not sure if any of that helps, but you will get it eventually the more you practice!
Okay, I will try that! Thank you!
Hi! I've been playing piano since I was like three and my best advice is to practice one hand a time, one section at a time. Divide the piece however you want but working it in little sections with one hand and then the other is incredibly helpful, at least in my experience. Also don't discount music theory, my old piano teacher did and I'm still making up for that now (╥‸╥) (my site reading skills are sooo bad lol). Have fun learning!
Okay, thanks! My first violin teacher also discounted music theory, so I get the struggle of having to learn it late.
