I believe it's considered plagiarism to have AI write your stuff in entirety, but my teacher actually encourages it for things like brainstorming and we've been told to use it in class a few times. I don't believe AI itself is evil, but definitely don't use it to write your schoolwork and check with your teacher first.
Yeah, my school considers it plagiarism too, but I have this one teacher who'll just give a hundred to those who AI-generate their work. They've already warned us that AI is bad for our brains and similar stuff, so they decided if we continue to use it, that's our (bad) decision, and they won't interfere in that and just give the hundred. I agree with this but like, I don't think you should give them a hundred when it's not their work. What's your opinion?
Yeah I completely agree. I am an avid user of AI (I know it's not only unethical but bad for the environment and I recently have been more mindful about my uses of it and have cut back a lot) but I have NEVER used it to write an assignment, the closest I have come is to get help with math or to help me study/brainstorm. I think that if you get caught using AI to write an assignment your grade on that assignment should suffer. I think you should either get a 0 on the assignment or get to redo it.
Yeah, it's kind of annoying when that happens because I actually do the work and get like an okay grade, and someone else who just uses AI for the whole thing gets a hundred.
my school's pretty much the same as bumblebea's - we've been warned against using it and all ai sites are blocked on our school chromebooks, so most people don't use it, but a few of our teachers have encouraged using it for brainstorming or rough outlines. I don't think using ai is necessarily bad, but I don't think anyone should use it to cheat at anything, including schoolwork.
Interesting, because our schools have never blocked any AI websites at all.
huh, I wonder why? my entire school district has every ai website blocked on our computers, including stuff like random word generators and things like that
It might be because some teacher at our school requested it to be unblocked for usage in class or smth like that. Or our school is just generally lax abt the whole thing
At my school, the teachers use like three different ways to watch what we're doing on the computers, so they'll catch kids on anything they're not supposed to be on. It's not the best system, though, because my English teacher was reading one of my friend's emails via the apps they use to monitor the kids.
My middle school had that because a kid got caught watching something they shouldn’t (idk if I can say what but I’m sure you can figure it out) but I don’t believe anything like that happened. That’s terrible!
Yeah, I understand monitoring to some extent, but we still should have some privacy.
