Clinging To Sunshine

I’ve kept every card I’ve ever received

For as long as I can remember

People fade in and out of your life

Eventually lost in the past, forgotten

I read their letters after sunset

When I’m left clinging to sunshine

I read all the texts

Remembering distant memories

Of the way things used to be

I write about memories

To forget the way things are now

Life was so sweet

But now it’s so bitter

It’s been four years

Eight months

And twenty-three days

Since my heart shattered

Into a million fragments

But I’m still picking up the pieces

Still re-reading the cards

Still looking through the texts

Still reminiscing the memories

Of the distant light I once held in my hands

Life moves on

Because the memories are gone

The days are whisked away

Yet the memories still linger

Will I ever learn

To live without the light?

Will I ever wake up from this nightmare

To see the sunrise?

  • peace is impossible

    I close the windows

    Lock the doors

    Turn off the lights

I don’t ever want to leave this room.

    I am tired of drowning

    In a world

That has never prepared me to swim.

There are ten days left until the first day of my freshman year,

    And I am fearful.

Fearful of drowning under the thrashing waves,

For I have been taught to survive

    but never to truly live.

  • Revival

    One day,

you will feel pain so excruciating it becomes abstruse. You will feel numb, detached from the world, lost in a void of darkness.
