the ruddy path
weaves through the tall
reaching branches
I walk slowly
afraid of the darkness
that lies inside
the whistling of wind
and the creaking of trees
is all I can hear
roots swim out
lacing into the dirt
almost invisible
in the infinite darkness
I shudder
the cold air
chills to the bone
my foot catches on a root
and I fall to the ground
I stand up
brush myself off
and continue on
although the darkness
is frightning
I must continue on.
