I want love to feel
like driving into the sunset in a 90's movie
in an old red convertible
classic rock playing us out.
I want love to feel
like a sunset in California
And music by the Arctic Monkeys
and Cigarettes After Sex
I want that kind of aching love
deep sighs and pretty eyes
driving somewhere no one knows
climbing in the backseat and no one stares.
I want smudged red lipstick
baggy jeans and tight dresses
Catch my eye at the party
Your champagne smile and my strawberry lips would be the pairing of the century.
I want the kind of glamour you can only find
in backrooms of bookstores and secluded alleyways
and 9pm on a summer evening
talk in sleepy voices quieted by a kiss.

There's something about this that feels particularly lyrical; it reads as if it's meant to be put to music! Strong imagery and interpretations of love throughout, I thought, even if real-life love doesn't always wind up draped in quite the degree of glamour you long for (we're always allowed to dream).
Cigarettes After Sex make my heart ache every time I hear them, no matter what mood I'm in!
