Eye Wish

When you get an eyelash in your eye

a wish will fall in with it

each one holds memories

stained with the makeup of your life

if the memory is tainted

with trauma, fear, or pain

the vessel that carries it will sting and stab

as if forcing you to confront and banish what your eyes have carried

but others can linger

stuck between your iris and eyelid

almost trying to stick in the back of your head

these are the memories that ache the most

the past would've, could've, should've that you regret

the longer the eyelash, the stronger the memory

so pluck them gently

as your eyes water and weep

and hold your power in the eyelash

and give memories new purpose

send your new wishes and hope

on an eyelash in the wind.
