Tree branches scratch past my window
The breeze pulling them through the air
New leaves bud along their strong arms
The sky is clear, blue, and bright
Clouds whisper along the surface
A contrast that pulls the blue color deeper into my eyes
I look down at my hands,
laced before me on my lap
Tears fall onto them softly, but my body shakes
Worry spills over the edge
Overpowering me, drowning me
As I try to steady my beating heart
Tomorrow is coming soon, and I don’t know if I’m ready
The scratching of the branch intensifies
Until my thoughts are louder, and
drown out the noise
My mind pulls me in
Stop.
A sound, gentle,
Yet, it cuts through my thoughts
A song.
I lift my head
My mind wiped clean by the noise
My eyes search for the bird
That’s chirp
Grounded me
