Dopamine

Because of these things called phones, those of us born in the digital world have far too large receptors for dopamine.

Miniature computers, larger dopamine receptors.

Harder to get content and joy.

And harder to find it anywhere but online.

But they are also slowly turning us into robots.

Scrolling on our phones, desperate for dopamine.

Not realizing the very reason we are unhappy is our phones.

Posted in response to the challenge Smartphones.

    Walking home alone.

    She spots a man nearby.

He whistles, shouts a lewd comment.

She tries to ignore him at first.

She calls back, laughing nervously, "Maybe another time!"

    Journal, pencil, print.

Letters melding together in a harmony on the page.

Graphite scratching the paper, pencil sharpening every 5 minutes.

Lined paper, perfect for doodles and random thoughts.
