Eyes Opened and Closed

Every time I open my eyes I see a different world staring back at me.

Sometimes it’s beautiful.

Sometimes I hate it.

Lately, I've seen more hate than love.

Every time I close my eyes I wonder what the next day will bring.

Happiness or sorrow or hatred or love.

Every day and every night gets steadily worse as I learn to open my eyes to the world.

I see the problems, but I don’t know how to fix them.

And it’s tearing me apart.

Closing my eyes is easier than opening them.

But I need to do both.

I need to keep trying.

We all do.

One person can’t change the world.

It takes a village.

Millions, no, billions of people working together, trying to make the world better.

Don’t close your eyes to the world forever.

Open them too.

  • Freedom

Freedom is a concept I think about often.

    A concept I don't really understand.

    Yes, we have it.

But it often feels like we don't.

How am I supposed to see how free I truly am, when I just feel trapped?

  • Experiences

    Experiences.

They're a gift all on their own.

Spending time with friends, laughing and talking about stuff that doesn't even really matter to anyone but us.

Immersing myself in a world of roleplay, where I'm whoever I want.

  • Dopamine

Because of these things called phones, those of us born in the digital world have far too large receptors for dopamine.

    Miniature computers, larger dopamine receptors.

Harder to get content and joy.
