Fairytale (writing for two book characters)

Verse one

I grew up believing in magic
In endings tied up with a bow
Thought love was just timing and wishing
 Guess I didn’t know

You said you weren’t ready for something
I heard maybe someday, maybe soon
I built castles out of your maybes
 They all fell through

Pre chorus

I held onto every word you said

Like it meant more than it did

I was waiting for you to choose me

You never did

Chorus

I really wished that I could’ve been your fairytale
The kind you keep, the kind you never tell
 If only you had too
I’d still be standing right next to you

I really wished that I could’ve been the one you chose
 The happy ending everybody knows
 Guess wishes don’t come true
But I really wished that you had too

Verse two

You looked at me like I was something
Just not the thing you’d keep
I played the role of almost
 While you fell asleep

I watched you chase a different story
While I stayed stuck on the same page
 Guess I was never meant
For the part where you stay

Pre chorus

I memorized the way you smiled

Like it was mine to lose

I was hoping you’d wake up one day

And finally choose

Bridge

Maybe love’s not magic
 Maybe I was naïve
 Thinking wanting you was enough
 To make you want me

I was writing “us” in the margins
 You were already gone
 Guess fairytales only work
If you believe in them too

Final chorus

I really wished that I could’ve been your fairytale

But I was just a wish you never held

If only you had too

This wouldn’t hurt the way it do—

Outro

Guess I’ll stop wishing now

But I really wished that you had too

    The red bike,

    It just sits,

    No one ever touches it,

No one ever claimed the bike,

    After years in the park,

It lost some of it shine after tons of storms,

The rust comes and covers the beautiful paint,
