The Fall of the Education System

Crunch crunch

Walking to school

with the cool

air nipping,

not yet biting,

at exposed skin

leaving it red to match

the crunch crunch

of yellow and brown

underfoot.

The neighbor’s patch

of orange pumpkins,

bright and big and round,

smile their Halloween smiles

as the early bird

walks to the playground.

Crunch crunch

go the leaves at the slow tread of

miles to school,

freshly opened for students

to groan and grow at,

and the boy

Crunch crunch-ing

regrets leaving his house cat.

Crunch crunch

go the leaves on the great, stone steps

and the boy,

dreading the learning

and dreaming of a hayride,

Crunch crunch-es

his way inside.
