Founding Mothers

They say

America was raised

By our founding fathers

And I'm sure it was

But what about it's mothers

The ones who fought in the war

Disguised as boys

Because despite the discrimination

They faced

From their own people

They still fought beside them

They say

We have these men to thank

For the greatness we have

For our freedom

But what about the women

The women who worked tirelessly

Behind the scenes

Because they weren't allowed in the spotlight

And yet

They still worked for the better of our country

Of their people

I've heard

About the struggles our founding fathers

Have endured

How they understood the people of their country

But did they?

Did they understand the hardships of the women

The challenges they faced

Did they understand the fear

The women felt

When told the stories

Of their friends

Who were victims to assault

But it was deemed as ordinary

And deserved

Did our founding fathers

Know just how much

Their wives did

Their mothers

From the wives of our presidents

Who encouraged women's rights

And influenced the very laws

Our country goes by

To the women who became

Spies

Nurses

Business owners

Soldiers

Then after the war

Fought for women's rights

Human rights

Wrote books

Became admired

Adored

But also hated

And yet

They helped

Raise our country

Raised our ancestors

Founding fathers

Are nothing

Without their partner

America is nothing

Without our

Founding Mothers

  • I Want To Cry

    I want to cry

I want to let it out

    Each tear

    A reminder of my failures

    Each tear

    Filled with my fears

    Each tear

    A bottle of sadness

    Maybe anger

    I want to cry

  • Scared to Fall in Love

What happens if I fall in love

And no one's there to catch me

What if I give them the world

And they ask for the universe

What do I do if falling in love

Is like free-falling but not knowing where

    She upsets me

    Her face

    The way she laughs

    The way she talks

She's like the piece of hair

That is never in the right place

Why does she even wear that

Why does she look like that

    Looking at her
