It's good to have goals.
Right?
I mean
They seem like a good idea
The idea of succeeding in something you worked hard for
The thrill of when you finally achieve it
Like finishing a detailed painting
Or landing that clean double pirouette
But sometimes
They seem unreachable
Like the motivation just doesn't want to help out today
But then there's that feeling
The feeling that if you don't succeed, you fail
There's no in between
You're either perfect
Or
You're not
If you miss a single step
Or write one word wrong
Then the feeling of failure comes
And with that
Comes a larger desire to be perfect
To never mess up again
So you try harder
Well I don't care if I'm a little bit of a perfectionist
I don't care if sometimes I arrange my school supplies so they are all lined up
I don't care if we are talking about perfectionism in leadership, and my friends look at me
I think it pushes me to be better
Yeah, some think of it as a bad thing
Something that you tear yourself down with
But that's not what it is
Because if you are always looking to be better
And you take the feedback personally
You'll get better
You'll remember how
And the goals will get easier
Originally, I thought this poem
Was going to be about goals feeling hard
But instead
It gave me motivation
Writing is funny that way
You start out writing one thing
And it takes a whole different path
It's calming
It's a way to say what's hard to say out loud
But back to the goals topic
Yeah, sometimes goals can feel hard
Sometimes they seem unreachable
But if you make them right
You'll feel the success
You'll feel confident
And the motivation will come more easily
And the more motivation you have
The more you will want to get better
And the more you want it
The better you get
And the better you get
The more motivation you have
It's just one big circle.
