The Gray Area In-Between

Right or wrong...
Right or wrong...
Answers swinging inside my head,
Like the tick... tick... ticking from the clock on the shelf,
Counting down the sand from the timer,
The sand that's running low,
Each grain,
Sinking deeper,
And deeper
Into the grooves of my skin,
Into the flow of my blood,
Into the pumping of my darkening heart,
The shade of my eyes,
Flickering like the candles lighting up the boxes...
Yes...
No...
Why not maybe?
Why not some other time?
Why now,
Why then,
Why anything?
The clock keeps,
                        tick...
                                 tick...
                                          ticking...
The sand keeps draining,
                                     faster...
                                                 faster...
                                                             faster...
I'm running out of time,
The time on the clock,
The time in the sand,
The time of my decision draws,
Nearer...
And,
Nearer...
Tightening my time till it's stretched too thin.

My heart stops,
The pen drops,
I sway,
Slowly,
Till my vision blurs...
And I'm on the ground.

The tiles are smooth,
Gray,
Expressionless,
Endless,
Gray,
Forever and ever,
A gray abyss of nothing but my indecision flashing in between the worlds of gray,
Shouting mutely in my ears,
Quaking the tiles,
Gripping my cold,
Dead skin,
That's gray too,
Everything is quiet while blasting in my head,
The nonstop melodies of dread,
Gone quiet yet earsplitting.

And all that remains...
Is gray.
