A Haiku and a Realization

Free verse poetry

overtakes the English tongue

beautiful but sad

-I've realized I don't quite know how to write poetry outside of free verse, the occasional ode or haiku, so I'm going to start writing with intentional meter and rhymth, as well as studying new types of poetry while doing so. While I don't understand iambic pentameter (even though my eighth grade English teacher attempted to explain it), I will be attempting to learn as well as discover new ones. My current English class is helping a lot with this, actually, by teaching me rhetorical devices. Those are great. Btw this is not to hate on people who do a lot of free verse poetry, I just want to branch out from what I've always done. Thank you!
