I Am Alive

Every morning I rise
To solemnly smother strawberry jam
On some sort of cinnamon muffin

Every morning I rise
To toss on a t-shirt  I've worn three days in a row
And brush my teeth for not-long-enough

The way that it is, the way it will
Always be
Never hurts, never harms
But never sparks a smile
Either

Sometimes change is the best kind of medicine
A shiver trickles through my bones
A rainbow painted through the sky
Beaming as bright as the sun that finally
Peeks from behind the clouds

When autumn leaves the color of fire
Coat the forest floor
And I leap into their damp heaps
I am alive

When chills run down my spine
In the crisp winter air
Blanketed in crystal flakes
I am alive

When my hands darken with dirt
Spring seeds flourishing into blossoms
Just before my eyes
I am alive

When my eyes drift closed
And the rippling summer water of the river
Is all, for now
I am alive

The everyday qualms of me and
You and her and him drift away
Just the rapids rushing
Only the river rippling
That's all, for now
I am alive

  • fragile foundation

    every twist of inadequacy's blade

(each one worse than the previous)

fell in a rhythmic order, one that your silence

carried in. did you hate me?

you'd never say so. so blindly, i never changed.

    sunday nights are my own.

old music in the corners of my mind

pen scratches on paper, ten thousand poems

    two hundred and seventy-two

    little golden lights, 4 walls

    that mirror my soul.
