I Believe That Peace Is Beautiful

I believe

that peace

is when

the screaming and shouting and bellowing and crying out

of every generation that has pleaded

for this thing called peace

can settle itself and let us rest our throats.

I believe

that peace

is when

the blood and tears and wounds and souls rubbed raw

of every generation that has sacrificed themselves

for this thing called peace

can heal itself (not fully, never fully, there will always be an ugly scar, but just enough that we hardly feel it anymore) and let us dry its ruby-red tears.

I believe

that peace

is when

the hundreds of thousands of millions of innocent - oh so innocent - people

who fought tooth and nail, desperately, angrily, calmly, passionately

for this thing called peace

who are now laying in their cold, hard graves

can finally rest,

knowing that we of the new generation (the ones who are supposed to fix everything when we can't even agree with each other)

have brought about this thing called peace.

I believe that peace is beautiful.

All we have to do now is bring about this thing called peace.
