If I Kissed This World Goodbye

If I love you were the last words that would roll upon my lips,

Would they find themselves an alter,

As you kissed my fingertips?

I hoped I would read you stories of all the fairy tales,

But this book that I am closing,

Has no white and perfect veil.

If the moment that they left me and my eyes let out a tear,

Would you wipe it off my cheek,

And remember I was here?

I feared I’d never teach you — was very much afraid,

But the love to you my daughter,

Is more than beds unmade.

If I love you were the words that came directly from my chest,

And it harbored me to breathe them,

Would you cherish what they’d left?

I wished to hold you tighter when you would need me the most,

Daughter I am truly sorry,

For the things that I had hoped.

If I love you was the only thing that I had left to say,

Would it crumble you to pieces or would you simply walk away?

Your smile is more beautiful than the day I brought you here,

And now that I must leave you,

I love you more my dear.

She wished that space would talk to her,

    And whispered to the moon,

About the days that haunted her,

And those that would come soon.

    She wanted to apologize,

    For wishing on the stars,
