Intertwined Fate

my final fate– here i stand as the anticipation builds.

all i ever spent my life waiting for

stands still here– emotionless

a shell of humanity that lies awake at night–

too scared to dream;

too afraid to believe.

i once was a believer– like most were when they were young

but the world slowly takes and takes until,

you are left with all you currently have—

nothing.

i sat next to a man on a bench in a crowded city–

way out on the east coast

he was years wiser than me or so i believed.

the way the words flowed from his mouth;

like he believed everything he was told— by those

wishing to do wrong.

he lives his life through the eyes of an observer—

someone who stopped dreaming years ago.

a shell of what he once was,

but it doesn’t bother him the same way it once did.

and i looked up to the sky,

hoping to see something besides the lights of the city—

watching the sky slowly fall down beside me.

squinting to see the night— covered by concrete

and the artificial glow of a different life.

my final fate— i rest easily

knowing this is it.

this is all i will get living in a world

too afraid to be anything else.

  • The dog at the end

    There’s a dog that sits on the end of my street—

    he barks at anyone that nears,

    snarling teeth that glow shiny in the afternoon light.

  • I am not

    I am not a poet
    I don’t know how to use my words the way they can
    I can’t captivate the minds of my friends by stringing them along with the simplest of words

    I am not a musician
