I need an answer
I want to know why
I want to push you against the floor
And demand a better answer than that
Don’t say love
Because love does not answer
Why we do these terrible things to each other
These wonderful things for each other
Cannot explain the robber barons
who made money
Stuffing bodies into factories
With the clanking of the machines a constant reminder
Of their childrens' sick eyes
Why they used this money
to build parks
and to fund most of this countries public libraries
Love cannot explain all the revolutions
And the tanks that come
To crush the fragile bodies of the boys
Who only dreamed to see their parents
Breathe without fear
To see the huddled bodied in the street
Warm
Love cannot explain how in one apartment a girl learns to read
And in the next apartment a different girl is raped
Love cannot explain
So give me an answer
Other than the news
Telling me how we are going to kill this world that we live in
But die valiantly fighting to stop ourselves
From killing it
