Masterpiece

As a new dawn awakens may
The sun shower potential upon this new day
Shedding light upon grayed branches of slayed sprouts
Terminating their growth for the sake of
Economics and finances and appliances
Constellations scintillating upon
Only the gas that rises from our cities
Surmised to pick and peel away
Layers of the atmosphere day by day meanwhile
Schools ensure these pools of safety
19 innocent children and two teachers fell
For in reality we inevitably lack this tranquil safety
We built this world of fallen and risen
Now on the tilt of crumbling under our own weight as
Forests, friends, foes fall driven by our own hate
Like this broken masterpiece of a world we create
Has become our fate but
We are not destined for doom
We are destined for whatever world we create if only
We could see that it's never too late to
Redirect the carving of this path we tread, together
This road of the wrath of our own fate despite the
Seemingly worthless essence of women in the nine's eyes
Decisions of our own bodies made by politicians hence
Rather than succumbing to the weeping arms of the willow
We will owe our fractured ounces of strength to
Piece together this fragmented masterpiece because
Our hardships won't just fade
Into the ether no matter
How far away from them we scurry the
Present persists and so
We will wade through these unknown waters and
Should our persistence fade
We will hold one another as one harmonious whole
Never slinking back into that shadowed hole
Of never
As one bruised yet beautiful union
We rally for our rights
Fight for our freedom
Speak for our serenity
Pray for our peace
Enlighten for our equality and
As a new dawn enlightens us
We will lift up our eyes as one
To the young, flourishing blossoms
To the thriving ones with differences---whether that be chocolate skin or physical proportions
To our battered companions, bearing scars of stories as they stand---perhaps trembling, yet standing proudly
Not before us
Between us
Behind us
Yet beside us as
We rise as one, carving our own path of faith in our fate
Clasping our courage and trusting
That the facets of this masterpiece
Will weave themselves back
Together yet only if we can envision this new dawn
Only if we can believe it

  • fragile foundation

    every twist of inadequacy's blade

(each one worse than the previous)

fell in a rhythmic order, one that your silence

carried in. did you hate me?

you'd never say so. so blindly, i never changed.

    sunday nights are my own.

old music in the corners of my mind

pen scratches on paper, ten thousand poems

    two hundred and seventy-two

    little golden lights, 4 walls

    that mirror my soul.
